Comfort in times of uncertainty

The current times get me feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. At those times I find I need to step back, reassess, and find a way to comfort my mind and body. This allows me to keep moving to do the work of growing and helping others to learn and grow.

What is your go-to comfort during this time? Looking at your current coping strategies can tell you a lot about what impacts you the most. The answer to this question can be purely an action, practice or something tangible. Others, who have had their livelihoods impacted, been sick, or been working in a hospital will have very different answers. Keep in mind, all of our needs are different, even in the best of times. At times like these, the answers may even come in conflict with each other.

Right now, we are confronted with many very difficult choices. As I hear the conflicts, the facts, the perspectives on what the future holds I try to remind myself that each of us is facing different challenges in our lives. Whether I agree with someone’s opinion or not I choose to think they are doing the best that they can. The more you can tap into tools that serve your need for making sense of what is happening, the better the decisions you make.

Many people react to situations. Think of reaction like a reflex. It is just your off the cuff response to what is going on. Like a child when their favorite toy is taken away they react like they will never have the toy back again and that nothing will replace that toy, ever. We all know that same child will completely ignore that toy by next year, or even next week. A child, at this stage of development, does not have the perspective to know that things change all the time.
